How to tell which department handles a service
The department named on the form is the one that handles it. A news article, a video, or a directory entry can point you there. They are not the office.
People lose days because they queue at a counter that only photocopies a form another office accepts. The name you need is printed on the form or on the submit button’s website.
Read the letterhead
On a PDF, the letterhead and the website in the footer are the issuer. On a portal, read the domain and the “about” line. Then search that name on the National Portal if you need a second way in. Starting there is useful when you do not yet have a letterhead.
A directory is not the counter
Yojana Hub, a news explainer, and a YouTube video can all be directories. They should send you onward. If they ask you to pay inside the explainer, you are no longer looking at the department.
