A document checklist for college admission season

Collect identity, school, and category papers before a form opens, then match that pile to the college’s own list rather than a forwarded one.

Admission season goes badly when the form asks for a paper you have not found yet. You can prepare a folder without pretending that every college wants the same set.

Build a folder, then edit it

Start with photo identity, school marksheets, transfer or leaving papers if you have them, and any category or domicile certificate you already hold. Do not create a document you do not have. If a form requires one, the college’s instructions will say so.

Match the folder to one institution

Open the prospectus or admission notice on the college or university website. Tick only the items that notice names. A list in a group chat is a hint. The notice is the list the desk will follow.

  • Keep file names readable, such as “marksheet-class-12”.
  • Check that the name on each file matches the name on the identity proof.
  • Note photo size or file-size rules from that form, not from an older form.

If the form also asks for a photograph, use the photo checks before you upload.

Questions this article answers

Should I trust a document list from a coaching message?

Use it only as a reminder. The college or exam body publishes the list that the form will enforce.

What should I do with originals on the day?

Take the originals the institution asked for, and keep a photocopy set that matches those originals.
